At our last #EPlenary we debated the recent discussions on the future of the #EUGreenDeal & overall climate & environment policies.

My message is clear.

The Green Deal always was & remains our growth strategy to ensure our industry’s competitiveness & our energy independence.

I applaud the positive vote & full support for the EU ratification of the High Seas Treaty #BBNJ aiming to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.

Now we must bring along all international counterparts to ratify it as fast as possible!

Positive European Parliament vote on our proposal for a Packaging & Packaging Waste Law!

We have a balanced set of measures that will contribute significantly to reducing packaging waste, will promote circularity & will harmonise the conditions for placing packaging on the EU market.

Our ambition is to phase out the most harmful chemicals.

Yet some of their uses are still essential for society & to help us deliver the green & digital transition.

We have new guidance on criteria for defining which of them are actually essential.

Deforestation is a complicated challenge & we're stepping up our support to 🇨🇮Côte d’Ivoire with:

€50M in new budget support
€15M for forestry through the PASSAD programme.
An European Investment Bank loan of approx. €150M in preparation.
€ 2,4M project with Eurochambres on #CSR .

🇨🇮 is important trade partner for 🇪🇺 & we want to ensure that trade continues in the right conditions.

Today we celebrate 45 years of one of the cornerstones of 🇪🇺 environmental legislations.

The Birds Directive.

It protects all naturally occuring wild bird species in the European Union & allows them to recover & thrive over the long-term.

The vote at #ENV @EU_Council on Nature Restoration Law was regrettably not sealed today as it should have.

Yet I am optimistic & I believe the Member States can bring it over the finish line.

It’s the only way forward to meet our international & climate targets.

In the past difficult years, we have maximised our support to the 🇪🇺 fisheries sector.

But nothing would have been achieved without our fishers & aquaculture farmers.

I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their commendable efforts.
