Drug use material (Smokers material) remains the #1 cause of fires in Vancouver. Locking butane torches & open flame represent a significant fire safety risk which has already caused numerous fatalities, injuries and loss since 2023. We are working to ban these dangerous devices.

Thank you to the numerous groups involved in reducing the significant cancer risk to our firefighters.

VFRS is proud to be the first fire service in North America moving to #PFAS -free gear! 220 sets of turnout gear are in the process of being transitioned and, with today's Council approval, the remainder will follow, reducing the risk of #cancers to fire fighters across the city.

#Update : crews have finished operations on the 200 Block of E Hastings- the 5th SRO fire in 3 days.

-Numerous set outdoor fires throughout Downtown, Downtown Eastside & Strathcona.
-Boat fire
-RV fire
-High rise fire at UBC.

Thursday through Monday brought challenges across the city during Easter long weekend. 43 fires, numerous set fires and firefighters giving first aid to 2 dogs that were shot. Thank you to all first responders for your efforts in keeping people safe!
