Ten years ago today, Gregory White Smith, who coauthored Van Gogh: The Life and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Jackson Pollock: An American Saga, died after a heroic 40-year-long struggle against brain cancer. Today, we would like honor his extraordinary life and legacy.

This is Léonie Rose Charbuy-Davy, the niece of a renowned art dealer. Van Gogh painted her without commission, hoping to establish his reputation as a painter of Parisian high society.
