On This Day 16th April 1917.
At the second Battle of the Aisne (between Soissons and Reims) the French take first German positions between Soissons and Craonne, and second positions to the south of Juvincourt, and the advance line to the Aisne Canal between Loivre and Courcy.

British advance north of Vimy Ridge, taking the 'Pimple' and Bois en Hache, and south of the Arras-Cambrai road they take Heninel and Wancourt.

Strong German attacks at Bailleul and Wulverghem, Neuve Eglise and Messines penetrated.

On This Day 11th April 1918.
The British hold at Hollebeke and Messines, but are forced back beyond Ploegsteert and Steenwercke to the south of Neuve Eglise and Bailleul. The Germans capture Merville and claim 20,000 prisoners in the Northern sectors.
