Pranshu Verma We wrote last month about how and why lawyers are increasingly relying on ChatGPT to make their lives easier. Suffice it to say it does not always go as planned. washingtonpost.com/technology/202…

When I started reporting on the 4chan trolls spreading AI-generated Nazi memes on X, I expected to find no-name accounts hateposting into the void.

Instead I found blue checks w/ hundreds of thousands of followers racking up likes and shares... washingtonpost.com/technology/202…

There were always white supremacists, Nazis, etc. on Twitter. But they used to be mostly anonymous trolls w/ small followings. You'd see them when you hit 'see more replies.'

Now they often have blue checks, real followings, and get more engagement the more extreme their posts.

Musk's dismantling of Twitter's content moderation has been welcomed by many on the right in the US. Europeans are less impressed.

Citing sources was supposed to make AI chatbots more reliable, but the chatbots often made up stuff that wasn't in their sources. 🤦‍♀️

Another reason why AI chatbots can't replace reporters. Great Will Oremus story: washingtonpost.com/technology/202…

props to emmanuel and the amazing journalists at 404 who have had some great scoops in their short history. they were first to uncover the 4chan communities making the ai hate memes. what's new in our story is quantifying their spread on X, particularly by verified accounts.

The idea of OpenAI—that structuring a tech firm as a nonprofit would make it a trustworthy steward of AI—is dead. Now Microsoft is in the driver’s seat.

😳This was a study I was waiting for: does appealing to the (non-existent) “emotions“ of LLMs make them perform better?

The answer is YES. Adding “this is important for my career” or “You better be sure” to a prompt gives better answers, both objectively & subjectively!
