This is one of my favorite patients. Mainly because he was a Police Officer in 1983 and threw me in jail a couple of times and kept me out of real trouble. He moved on from law enforcement, and I move on from trouble eventually. We are lucky to have each other!

Today, my 31st (out of 1400+) CI patient came to see me. I placed her AB CII implant in early 1999! She had a couple of processor upgrades but she still likes this one and has 82% open set discrim!

Brother in law works in PE acquiring physician groups.

Was over for dinner last night.

Said the whole thing is smoke and mirrors. Struggling to cover their own debts.

A house of cards.

Rain Lillies. Treasures of the creek bottoms and woods in the Deep South. If they are blooming, stop and admire because they will be gone tomorrow.

All Cochlear Implant surgeons have wonderful stories of parents hearing their child’s voice for the first time, and of babies hearing their mother for the first time. But today my patient told me of hearing her child’s last words as he passed. We cried and were grateful.

This is my arm band from my SECOND ENT surgery from 1968. Dr. Buddy Hicks at Children’s Hospital at UAB removed a peanut from my lung when I was 1 year old, and then tubes/adenoids when I was 3.5. I was destined for Otolaryngology!
