One more time. There is nothing constitutionally wrong with the Lords refusing to accept decisions of the Commons that reject their amendments. Otherwise there would be no point to the Parliament Acts.

It'll be a long night. My best guess: the Lords will dig in. If you don't dig in for a policy violating human rights, not in a manifesto, proposed by a government that is not legitimized through an election and not supported by a majority of the population - when do you?

This degree of media attention on parliamentary ping-pong for a Bill is unusual. So important to stress that it is a standard, normal part of the legislative scrutiny process. What is unusual (historically, tho not in recent years) is the Govt's intransigent attitude to amdts.

I’m quoted here on #RwandaBill and double insistence. This “post-truth”Bill asks Parliament to declare that Rwanda is safe (which it isn’t, yet) and will always be safe (which is obviously unknowable). I expect to be involved (in Lord Hope’s absence) in the final stages tomorrow.
