Sharing this important story again because this is a huge national scandal deserving of an inquiry. And because we don't talk enough about the enormous contribution made to society *and* the economy by unpaid carers. Patrick Butler Women's Budget Group theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

Absolutely - expansion without addressing issues surrounding funding and structure will mean that these rollouts mark a false dawn rather than a new era of support for the sector and many of the families who need it most.

These are heart breaking stories of people providing unpaid care - which contributes an estimated £162 billion a year of value to the UK economy - being forced to repay Department for Work and Pensions or face prosecution. 72% of those receiving carer's allowance are women.

Today marks an unhappy birthday – the 7th anniversary of the two-child limit to benefit payments. As part of the @endchildpoverty Coalition we have a message for Department for Work and Pensions – one they can’t ignore – it’s time to scrap the unfair sibling tax.

Good to see our research with University of Leeds Women's Budget Group and Joseph Rowntree Foundation covered again here.

As we have repeatedly made clear to ALL political parties in this election year: nothing is possible without a clear plan for the early years workforce.

It's disappointing that the infrastructure is simply not in place to ensure this scheme's success. The government must devise a proper workforce plan, alongside adequate investment & revised eligibility to ensure the expansion reaches its full potential.
