Sat. at 3:52, during firefighting operations at Tyson Snow Hill Feed Mill grain bin fire, pressure from steam/combustion gases was released through sealed vents on the bin's roof. There was a loud pop of steam from the bin. Debris was contained in the onsite safety zone.

Worcester County Government offices, including all five Branch Libraries, will be closed Mon., May 27, for Memorial Day.
The Central Landfill and transfer stations will also be closed.
Worcester County Recreation and Parks will be closed Sun.-Mon., May 26-27.

Snow Hill transfer station closed

Out of an abundance of caution, the Snow Hill transfer station closed at 1 p.m. Sat., May 18, 2024, and will remain closed while local officials work with Tyson to resolve a fire contained inside a silo on the adjacent Tyson Plant property.

The Fire Marshal/Emergency Services are monitoring efforts by Tyson officials to mitigate a fire within a grain solo at their Snow Hill plant. FMO and DES will remain in constant contact with local partners and onsite as efforts to extinguish the fire get underway this weekend.

April 16, the commissioners presented a Fair Housing Month proclamation to Housing Program Coordinator Davida Washington. Since 1987, the County's Housing Rehabilitation Program has rehabilitated/replaced 324 homes and will replace 13 additional homes this year.
