The Black-and-White Warbler is constantly on the move looking for insects in every nook and cranny of a tree. I love their bold and distinct markings and know from experience that seeing one for the first time is an exciting experience.

Such a delight to catch a solitary golden plover on the beach. A handsome little wader that’s often in large flocks.

The Common Scoter is a sea duck. It’s usually seen way out to sea, so it’s nice to see one close up. Their dark colouration makes them difficult to spot - a good way to avoid predators and birdwatchers!

I'm very fond of the Ringed Plover and I love this photo of four of them waiting on the tideline. They look a little bit like miniature penguins.

It was hot here today, but it’s definitely feeling like Fall. And that’s because Gracklepalooza has started! The common grackles are massing and in the 36c heat, our small creek was very attractive. This male was taking time out for a quick drink to cool off!

I kept walking past the place where I'd heard a Water Rail but he refused to show himself. Then, just as the sun was going down, out he came!

I knelt in a very deep puddle to get this shot.

I followed this Woodlark for a while before he stopped and posed for me. He kindly displayed his crest too.

These birds are usually seen a long way away on the other side of a field. So it was nice to see one close up.

Isabelline shrike! It derives its name from Isabella which is pale cream brown colour. It perches on dry and thorny bushes. It is known to hunt its prey and impale it on thorns before consuming!

I love the gentle 'cooing' sounds that eider species make. This one is a female Spectacled Eider, snoozing in the sun.
