As I shared today in the House of Commons, we’ve just released our updated vision for defence.

Our North, Strong and Free is a clear plan to build a Canadian Armed Forces that can protect our sovereignty and defend our global interests in the face of new and emerging threats.

Today, the Government of Canada released 'Our North, Strong and Free: A Renewed Vision for Canada's Defence'.

With a focus on strengthening Canada's Arctic sovereignty, the investments included in this updated defence policy will help ensure the safety and security of the North.

I was happy to announce this investment on behalf of Minister Jonathan Wilkinson 🇨🇦, and to join Darrell Beaulieu in making the announcement.

April is Cancer Awareness Month in Canada, known as Daffodil Month. I joined them for early breakfast today on parliament hill to raise awareness around Cancer, promote the need for research and support the many patients and their families.

Today, we commemorate Vimy Ridge Day and honor the brave Canadian soldiers who answered the call of duty. We remember their sacrifices and the heavy cost of victory, including the more than 7,000 injured and almost 3,600 who never returned home.

Today, on Vimy Ridge Day, we remember and honor the valor and sacrifice of the Canadians who fought at Vimy Ridge, along with all those who served during the First World War, to protect and uphold the ideals of the peace and freedoms that we value and enjoy today.

Strengthening our Armed Forces. Keeping our North strong and free. That’s our renewed vision for Canada’s defence.

We need a robust military that can defend Canada and protect Canadians, while defending our national interests.

Defence production is deterrence – and it supports highly skilled jobs and economic growth across Canada.

Our North, Strong and Free invests $9.5 billion to build a strategic reserve of ammunition and scale up the production of ammunition, including here in Canada.

None of our work to defend Canada is possible without our people.

That’s why this defence policy update invests $100 million to increase access to childcare for military families – and almost $300 million to build and improve housing for Canadian Armed Forces members.

You don’t care what government does what.

You just want us to work together to get stuff done.
