Universities, like Columbia, must ask themselves, “under what conditions would they permit the police to kill one of its students or one of its faculty members.

Is Columbia willing to have police kill one of its students today? That is the gamble they’re taking.

If you’re faculty at a university where there are protests, remember there are lots of ways to support, publicly & privately, tenured or not. Here’s a few:
-Know your faculty rights & rules
-Amplify protest info on your social media, privately to colleagues or in class

I would hope that Columbia Faculty see their admin arresting their own students for peaceful protest as a red line. These students are in our care. Our primary responsibility as academics is to nurture their minds and protect them from oppression. Faculty must walk out now.

Let's be very clear. Schools like Columbia University Columbia College Barnard College will persecute a generation of activists who are on the pulse of collective liberation and then co opt and uplift their stories 60 years later. Columbia UniversitySJP keep writing history.
