well, in an attempt to prevent unauthorized uploads/remakes, artists are protected this way if we're being honest. but it seems/sounds so odd... like, I feel it sets a bad precedent, I can't pinpoint it though. you'll listen to my music as I serve it to you... not how you want it
music distribution services have stepped up, it's quite interesting. when I chose distrokid in 2016, it was a no brainer. ditto has levelled up, amuse, horus, tunecore even. it's crazy how many GOOD options you have as a new artist right now. team distrokid still, but just saying
Twitter is an odd place. Mick Jenkins 'feeling' the 'need' to say this after several backs and forths regarding some of his posts is wild. One of the best to ever do it, consistent, great artistry. Insane how this app makes you feel, it's trash. Yet here we are.
I was reading about how knxwledge has been using soul surplus loops in his production, people had opinions about it. you know who doesn't? the people listening. the goal is to satisfy yourself, and then them. other creators' opinions don't mean shit.
you know what, yeah, monthly listeners this, monthly listeners that, it's not a good metric, sure. it's a 'business' metric. but bruh, if you have more twitter followers and likes on your tweets than listeners on all platforms + bandcamp sales + streams etc. combined... nah. sit.
a reminder that only rich artists can say shit like this. they don't care about their listeners, and they are not fighting any ethical war either. just rich people being out of touch.
funny to watch in real time all the music nft/web3 subhumans crawl out of the woodwork now that the crypto market is doing well and we're heading for a bull run (fingers crossed). begone, begone I say
The way I see it Vault / James Blake are suggesting OnlyFans, but for mp3 files. I'm somewhat disappointed, esp. by the growth hacking marketing play, but it also shows that artists & audiences are hungry and ready for alternative models. That's the major learning.
if you're a streamer, and you stream 10 hours a day, every day, for a long time, putting a lot of work in, twitch won't pay you just because you put in effort. just doing something doesn't entitle you to financial compensation. okay. this tweet isn't about streamers.
regarding the living wage for musicians act, those who act interested forget about the most important part of the equation, same part that 'web3' artists forget: THE FUCKING PEOPLE THAT PAY FOR MUSIC. you ignant bums, it doesn't take that much time to study a few things.
