I received the RFQ for the restructuring analysis of NJ TRANSIT (still waiting on actual contract).

The main goal of the study is find $600M in cuts to NJT’s budget in FY25 and FY26 — a key detail withheld from public before the fare hike vote yesterday.

The NJ Transit board is set to vote Wednesday on a fare increase proposal that could raise fares 15% on July 1 and 3% annually indefinitely — without having completed an analysis of how best to restructure the agency.

'It is a dark day in Arizona... The near-total Civil War-era [abortion] ban...only serves to create more chaos for women and doctors in our state.'

— Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) on the state Supreme Court upholding 1864 abortion ban, virtually wiping out abortion access in the state

The journalists of Democrat & Chronicle have had enough. We want fair wages. We want negotiations in good faith. We want moves that take our profession seriously.

Investing in local journalism means investing in local journalists, Gannett.

Rochester needs journalists.
Democrat & Chronicle needs journalists.

We’re on strike because Gannett somehow found funds to give CEO Mike Reed a 14% raise to $3.9M — but won’t even agree to $1/hr more for its frontline journalists.

Corporate greed is killing our newsroom. Newspaper Guild of Rochester

❌ Do NOT click D&C links while we’re on strike.
❌ Do NOT grant interviews to editors or scab journalists brought in to replace us.
✅ DO let Michael Kilian & Gannett know how you feel about their tactics.

With the community’s support we’ll come through stronger than ever. ✊

I’ve been asking counties for invoices in the county line suit to see how much money taxpayers are paying for this. So far almost all of them say they don’t have the invoices yet. Warren has one and the total is $7,696. newjerseymonitor.com/wp-content/upl…

Days before the Key Bridge was struck by the Dali cargo vessel, it passed under the Bayonne and Verrazzano bridges.

Here’s what a SUNY Maritime instructor, a structural engineer and others had to say about our bridge defense systems and the role of tugs.

I’ve heard Governor Phil Murphy tell complaining commuters that NJ TRANSIT is largely fixed.

So I dove into every performance metric for train, bus, light rail and Access Link to compare how NJT was in 2017 compared to 2023.

Here’s what I found 👇

Great column by Terrence T. McDonald about how hard it is to pry records out of the hands of public agencies and how the OPRA bills would make it much harder. Hope Senate President Nick Scutari & Speaker Craig J. Coughlin read it, instead of continuing to insist they're right

Here’s how NJ towns will consider where affordable housing should go over the next decade, now that Gov Murphy signed “historic” legislation:
