AI is making Google search more useful for consumers.

That's awesome.

Unfortunately, laws like EU's Digital Markets Act and bills like Amy Klobuchar's AICOA aim to freeze Google search in place and halt this kind of innovation.

2. Our new survey does not find big majorities opposed to upzoning for market-rate housing. Just not much of a constituency for it.

Opinions on MR housing are also less stable than opinions on price controls.

Which suggests that there's room for persuasion on MR housing.

Yesterday, Chair CathyMcMorrisRodgers and Ranking Member Rep. Frank Pallone of Energy & Commerce Democrats 'issued an ultimatum' (or “took a hostage” depending on what you read) to sunset to force dominant platforms to the table on data privacy and kids’ safety.

with misguided ideas about abolishing Section 230 floating in DC today, it's worth re-reading this excellent Daniel Jeffries essay from 2022 on, 'Why We’ll Hate Section 230’s Repeal and Why It Will Screw Both Left and Right the Same.' He nails it here:

.Eric Goldman (he/him) is right about the new 'sunset 230' bill.

The only thing that Pallone and Rodgers agree on is that they dislike 230.

But the moment you ask them how they would change it, their agreement will fall apart.

That's why they didn't propose a change.

If you visualize the American workforce as 500 workers, roughly:
39 of them work in manufacturing,
24 of them in construction, and
8 of them in mining/agriculture/fishing combined.
So that’s 71 out of 500 workers in goods-producing jobs. The other 429 are in services. 1/5
