JUST ANNOUNCED: I’ve stepped in again to freeze all TfL fares as the cost-of-living crisis continues to hit Londoners hard.

While people across the country face another hike in their rail fares, I'm not prepared to stand by and see Londoners face a similar hike.

Such sad news.

Tony was an incredible parliamentarian with huge integrity. A staunch trade unionist. And perhaps most importantly, he was a thoroughly decent, kind, warm and generous man.

Our politics needs more people like Tony Lloyd.

Absolutely gutted to hear of the departure of ⁦Alison Phillips⁩ from the ⁦The Mirror⁩. A fantastic journalist, editor and huge friend of ⁦HOPE not hate⁩. She embodied the campaigning compassion of the Mirror. She will be greatly missed theguardian.com/business/2024/…

Huge loss for Reach: Alison Phillips is a brilliant, compassionate editor who always understood that it’s people that make the Mirror - both its journalists and its readers. theguardian.com/business/2024/…

Inspiring, courageous, principled, decent and caring, Alison Phillips is the first editor in my 40 years whose departure will be mourned by the entire newsroom.

If it’s true that Alison Phillips is leaving the Mirror, it’s the most enormous loss. She is a huge champion of working people, and always a stalwart friend of the trade union movement.

I would be dead. So would my beloved nearly five year old. So would my sister in law. So would my darling two year old niece.

I do think the change in political tone and urgency we are going to see on this next year will be abrupt. If Lab win a majority we go from a Con govt whose base are largely insulated from housing crisis to a Lab govt whose base is drawn from those hit hardest. Massive shift in…

Very struck by this, on the union movement’s response to the banning of free trade unions in Germany in 1933

One of the best moments of my week is driving to the gym (probably a bit fast cos we’re always late) with the 4yo on a Saturday. She picks the music and we sing

This morning: Reach for the Stars, The One and Only - and then she rickrolled me!

It’s not enough for Ministers to wring their hands about the Post Office scandal. They need to hold outsourced contractors to account:

Make contractors subject to FoI requests

Independent oversight of value for money

Run public services in public interest, not profit

Great to hear Keir Starmer recommit to a Hillsborough law today in Liverpool.

Hillsborough, Post Office scandal, Orgreave, Blacklisting, Grenfell, Windrush…I could go on…

A story of class and power in this country. The balance needs to be redressed.

Many people are asking why CWU does not represent all Post Office workers.

Can I ask you all to retweet this thread as it further exposes the actions of Post Office management and why it is taking so long for justice to prevail…

This is a take that had me nodding all the way though: no retreat by Labour from a focus on standards, but a new and much-forgotten (nationally) new focus on everything else that is making it hard for our children to learn and achieve.
