Fwiw, I say all this as a lifelong activist who attended many protests against the Vietnam War as a small child with my parents.

These protests—and the heavy handed state responses to them—remind me very much of those times.

If you’re a protester:

What you’re doing matters.

As I’ve said many times before:

The state is not your friend.

The state is better conceptualized as a ravenous, power-hungry beast that can sometimes be manipulated into doing helpful things.

Its actions make sense if you view it from that perspective.

The young people were right about Vietnam.

The young people are right about Israel.

Ultimately, history will prove them so.
