Ok, here's a for real JWST Jupiter. The read noise (vertical lines) is... significant. But, look, the GRS has its own diffraction spikes. This is the NIRCam data with f322w2-f323n overlaid in red and f212n in sky blue. Bg is grayscale combo of both.

I think I figured out how the EROs were *really* chosen … this is the “JWST HOSPITALITY TABLE” in the cafe STScI for those folks doing commissioning at odd hours …

With some shrewd reasoning about ionization balance, Evans proposed that the Southern Ring Nebula has a binary central star in 1968!

The insight has earned him 5 citations. ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1968MNSSA.…

Exactly one month ago I sat in on a very secret, very special morning meeting. I'm thrilled to share this piece NYT Science about visual language, blockbuster science, and what it's like to be the first person alive to see the sky in a new way. nytimes.com/2022/07/12/sci…

Schafler Auditorium was full of excited scientists this morning, including many who have joint appointments at Space Telescope Science Institute and Johns Hopkins Physics & Astronomy.

It's not every day you get to join your neighbors in witnessing scientific history that they made happen!

Have to do this.

I remembered the left one when it came out. I was just an undergrad. But I do remember that creepy smiling face.

For non-astronomers: i promise you this spectrum immediately caught the eye of all astronomers. It’s hard to emphasize how incredible it is. This is one of the most distant galaxies ever found, and to see one emission line in a spectrum is often pretty special….
