I will be on CNN tonight at 7:30pm Eastern speaking with Jessica Dean about jury selection in the hush money trial NY vs. Donald Trump. We will talk about Trump's chances of getting a fair trial, what the process will look like, and how politics will enter into the equation.
At this point, most of the jurors now strongly know in their minds whether #JenniferCrumbley should be found guilty or not. Subsequent witnesses matter, as will closings and the law, but jurors have a solidified view of what unfolded.
The challenge for the defense is hindsight is a powerful psychological phenomenon. As jurors were evaluating #JenniferCrumbley 's testimony they factored in the eventual outcome which is Ethan shot and killed 4 people at his school injuring others. Hindsight bias is real.
A strong factor for the defense has nothing to do with this trial. It is that Ethan is the one who pulled the trigger and will be tried for what he did. Jurors know this and can give #JenniferCrumbley the benefit of the (reasonable) doubt knowing her son will be held to account.
#JenniferCrumbley in her own defense was less than stellar. She twisted her body from time to time, seemed irritated at her own lawyer and scowled too often. While her communication style isn’t shown to correlate with deception or hiding something, jurors make those connections
Jurors do not like anyone seeming to dodge responsibility. #JenniferCrumbley came off as overly blaming her husband, the school, etc., and therefore jurors will make a note of this.
It is pretty clear that the majority of the limited time spent deliberating was not about 'whether' but about 'how much.' #ejeancarrolltrial
Thanks Victor Blackwell CNN & Bianna Golodryga for having me. Great reporting! Given the swift verdict, the few initial dissenters must have been more of the 'I lean NG but am open to change' mantra versus 'I am 100% convinced he is NG.' And personalities matter! #AlexMurdaughtrial
I will be on CNN at 3pm Eastern talking about the swift verdict in the #AlexMurdaugh trial.
Not true #AlexMurdagh taking “control” of narrative on cross by providing elongated answers humanized him or made him more sympathetic when mere yes or no answers were required. Jurors HATE when a witness does this and feel it shows utter arrogance prevaricating and defensiveness
The State should have rhetorically asked jurors during close, 'Do you think ladies/gents, that if video with #AlexMurdaugh 's voice did not recently surface, he would have come clean and told you he previously lied and was really at the murder scene minutes before the killings?'
I spoke with Les Trent on Inside Edition about closings and the start to deliberations in the #AlexMurdaugh trial, airing later today/tonight. So much going on!
