As a blind woman I frequently experience hostile & bizarre behaviours from men.

My visual impairment wasn’t obvious before I used a white cane or guide dog so I’ve absolutely experienced the specific shift of behaviour towards my disability.

Here are two recent examples 🧵

Public libraries are the best things ever. Today spent a happy afternoon reading and playing scrabble with the 5 year old - 8 year old sister didn’t want to play “I TOLD you, I’m reading”. We need to defend these places with our lives.

I’ve only been doing the Easter holidays for 3 hours and now I need a lie down in a darkened room

Holidays at home with the kids and to save the trouble of planning each day we have written stuff on little bits of paper and will pull them out of a Tupperware box. Dreading what will come out some of them have “free for all” written on.

I know this is niche but 8 years after taking up knitting I have finally learned how to rescue a dropped stitch 4 stitches down - no more mass unravelling!

Fantastic day the UKIOG conference today. Not sure I will be able to sleep for several hours after the stiff coffee at the end of the day and the all the excitement. Pictured Dr Alia Al Chawaf and the inimitable Lizzy Smyth who is very missed in Cambridge!

I just spent 3 hours making a 3D plot from RNAseq PCA and honestly no regrets the rollercoaster of emotion when coding is a ride..

I was back in my hometown of Bham this weekend for Association of Cancer Physicians new consultants weekend. Lovely to meet friends old and new. Thank you to the organisers for a fab event. Feel thoroughly inducted into the oncology community now!

Slow clap for me learning to do intarsia knitting but not having the patience to go buy the same yarn in a different colour. Then many rows later changing my mind and unravelling. Buying the new yarn. And re doing all the work with the old yarn.
