'Opponents to the SunZia transmission route say their issue is not w/the energy transition, but with how this specific project opted to go through an intact ecological & cultural landscape rather than along existing degraded places...'only to save money.' insideclimatenews.org/news/10042024/…

My latest post summarizes March 2024, the planet’s 10th consecutive warmest month on record. Remarkable that 5 nations/territories set an all-time heat record for any month, and an additional 24 set an all-time March heat record.

moving to Houston is playing Russian roulette with a 30-chamber revolver. any year the city could be literally wiped out by a hurricane. I might move there for a short period (e.g., go to college there) but would definitely not get a 30-year mortgage there.

Conservation advocates are raising the alarm that a proposed highway east of El Paso would run above the Rio Bosque Wetlands Park. Wetlands along the Rio have all but disappeared and bringing back Rio Bosque has been a decades-long effort.

Bob Berwyn Of course, but people living in regions where the economy is built on oil and gas naturally want to be shown an energy transition pathway that doesn't crash their local economy. We have to show more imagination than the 1980s approach to closing coal mines in the UK.

Study says climate impacts on marine life are underestimated: “if ocean warming and acidification continue on the current trajectory, up to 100% of the biological processes in fish and invertebrate species will be affected,” ⁦EcoWatch⁩ ecowatch.com/climate-change…

Far South Texas is running out of water. Local officials have declared a disaster and asked the US State Dept to make Mexico provide water per its treaty obligations. Planners saw this situation coming for years.

In your opinion, which option is the most likely outcome?

Do not forget. We live on a planet of million-year-old species and an almost mystically beautiful, coevolved set of ecosystems and species.

Yes, the 2024 mass coral bleaching and mortality event on the Great Barrier Reef is very severe. It is the strongest event so far (highest heat exposure on record for the southern region).

Remember too that impacts are cumulative, and this is the 5th shock in just 8 summers.

Zeke Hausfather If someone spends *thousands of hours* unpaid doing the climate communications jobs climate scientists should have done decades ago, perhaps just accept it. You may lack good political or PR judgement if you think “alarmism” is the problem in the face of global apathy and denial.
