Liz Kendall: 'I do not want Jobcentres to be places of fear. I want Jobcentres to be places where you can go and get the support you need to get work.'

Great to see Labour discussing reform - but don't underestimate the scale of change required. 🧵

My latest blog for Demos analysing Rachel Reeves' Mais Lecture.

There are three visions outlined in the speech, but which one will we get under Labour?

Just reflecting on Institute for Government centre of government report. We've known about this problem for at least 15 years. Why hasn't someone fixed it?

NHS E are making A&E performance a competition with million pound cash prizes for the top ranked trusts.
This does not seem like a good incentive system.
Note that letter issued today (12 March) for performance in March.

Interesting. Have long argued employment policy should be led out of the department leading on skills, business, local economic development etc, not DWP, who have increasingly oriented employment programmes to the ends of people fulfilling benefit conditionality & little else.

Interesting from Ben Glover on Liz Kendall recent speech. I like the idea of DWP becoming a kind of access to work and progression in work department even if that's a hell of a culture shift. In this model, deep collaboration with employers will be key
