This is such an amazing discovery: a mother and daughter buried together, arranged in the grave so they were embracing, lying on a horse that may have been their beloved companion. 😭

Today the #Lewes Castle Gun Garden hosts the Knots of May for morris dancing on #GarlandDay . Dating back to c.1875, children once adorned hoops with flora for a chance to win a penny. Though the tradition faded in #Lewes , it was revived in 1980 and continues each year to this day.

Bomb Defusing Equipment, Eric Ravilious, 1940. It dates from his period as an Official War Artist observing Royal Naval Bomb Disposal units in #Kent at the start of #WW2 . The original artwork is in the collection of Towner Eastbourne.

#Giraffes ? No, these are figurines of #horses . They're pretty rare for the south of Germany, influenced by the Eastern Hallstatt culture. They were found in a burial mound in Römerstein-Zainingen, dating back to the 8th or 7th century BC.

This unusual building was constructed in 1923 to house a water tank for the village of Thorpeness in Suffolk. 🔺

The House in the Clouds was built by architect Frederick Forbes Glennie as part of Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie's Arts and Crafts-style village design.
