Australians need to band together tonight. The tragic incident in Sydney is heartbreaking and devastating. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. And to the brave civilians, police and emergency service crews, we are in awe your courage.

Vale Les Twentyman, one of Melbourne’s big characters. We were in contact just this week and he worked right up til the last. Thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, colleagues and all the people he helped along his road less travelled.

Today I introduced some new NDIS legislation into Parliament and Inclusion Australia has created an easy read version of the speech. This version was written by Inclusion Australia to help people with intellectual disabilities understand what I said. Please share.

Eight hours work. Eight hours recreation. Eight hours rest.

Rights for working people didn't come easily here.

They were hard fought and hard won – and they must always be defended.

Happy Labour Day.

Congratulations Jodie Belyea, Labor’s new MP for Dunkley. Jodie was always going to be tough to beat - she’s smart, kind, switched on and loves her electorate. A big win for Labor and a boon for Dunkley. ❤️

Vale Senator Linda White, a true stalwart of the union movement. I first met Linda when I joined ASU at Maurice Blackburn as an Article Clerk in 1992 and she was an associate and ASU delegate. Her work as a Victorian Senator has been widely commended. Rest in peace, Linda.
