I am dining out alone and I have been led to a back corner (‘we’ll just put you somewhere private’) and I am not sure, after some distance of time, whether my order will ever be taken

A reminder that the CFP for 'Gender and Sexuality in Modern British History and Beyond' closes at the end of this week. This event includes what promises to be a fascinating a keynote lecture by Martha Robinson Rhodes.

Fitting that I should discover a new Tunnock’s product in Sainsbury’s just after getting the physio sign off to slow run-walk the Edinburgh marathon. This is definitely how my Nan’s divine intervention would manifest

It's fun to ignore your physio and up the training until your leg starts to hurt on the same day as your physio appointment and then you realise that you'll have to explain this all to Josh and it won't sound big or clever when he is stabbing the stress injury and you're wincing

I can’t believe I made more from my shell-shock book this year than Charlie Higson made from The Fast Show. The world’s gone topsy turvy

So Chesney Hawkes will personally phone whoever has won the signed copy of the album tomorrow, & genuinely unsure how I will react if this happens. As an 11 yo I had a bomber jacket with ‘I ❤️ Chesney Hawkes’ printed on the back. I got a lot of grief.

I signed up to Chesney Hawkes’ mailing list in the hope of winning a signed US version of his debut album to match the signed UK version I won in a raffle when I was 11

Husband as I craft emails out loud to the person who has vexed me on a Friday afternoon: ‘The sentiments are spot-on, definitely, but you might want to change the words’

Just hit the oral history interview where our transcriber thought we were asking a woman about Beaver magazine (it was Diva)

One of the ‘skills’ I’ve acquired through editing is knowing the place of publication for most publishers. Was it all for nothing? 😭

I have a new article out! ‘Solitude is not thrust upon any lovable person’: loneliness, shame and the problem (of) personality.

I made a Gantt chart with my commitments for the next 3 years on it and now every time I want to start another mini-project my husband says, 'Why not see how it fits with the Gantt chart?'. It's sound advice tbh

RIP Lynne Reid Banks - who I first encountered when I read The Fairy Rebel, a children’s book with infertility at its centre, aged 8ish (deserves to be better known!)

This is essentially every academic department staff meeting in which someone who has never had a major administrative role complains at the Head of Department (let’s say Lorenzo LeNoir)

The *great* thing about publishers' tight turnarounds for responses to copy-edit queries after sitting on a manuscript for months is that the rest of my job does just magically disappear while I deal with them.

An oral history interviewee uses the term 'caesar roll' for post-prolapse procedure, can't find any reference to this term on the internet, but fairly sure it's 'caesar' as she relates it to 'caesarean'. Anyone able to tell me if I'm mis-hearing?
