In partnership with Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, the first bill I intro’d when I took office in 2021 would mandate audits and oversight of landlord compliance w/ the affordability requirements in 421a, after Housing Rights Initiative (HRI) exposed fraud in my district. Proud it made it into this budget!

That feeling when you finally have a budget

🚨🚨We just passed new language in the budget to require audits of luxury apartment buildings that receive 421a tax credits to ensure that landlords are complying with the law. No longer can landlords get away with claiming they have affordable units that they actually don’t!

It’s official! Sammy’s law has passed!

 Now New York City will be able to set its own speed limits and save lives. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to Amy Cohen, Safe Streets, and all of the advocates who pushed for this important change.
