My grandfather built motors that powered big machines. In a lab not so different from his workshop, my colleagues and I uncovered the assembly of the bacterial motor. Today, this discovery has been published in Nature Microbiology nature.com/articles/s4156…

Happy and super excited to share our discovery of a protein fractal! We unravel the surprisingly simple emergence of these marvellous structures and show it might have even been an accident of evolution. Read the full story here

It's ! I'm Michael, currently a PhD student in the biological sciences and budding scientific animator and designer. Interested in the complexity of life at microscopic scales.

Here's a few things I've made and my portfolio website is linked in the replies!

Bedaquiline (orange) inhibiting Tuberculosis ATP production by binding to the F0 ring of a mycobacterial ATP Synthase complex (green). Bedaquiline is a critical weapon in the fight against drug-resistant TB that attacks the bacterium's biochemical foundations.

A bigger more complex scene with . Membrane + pH gated ion channels (PDB 6fl9)! Not an animation this time as the render took ages.

Thanks again Brady Johnston

Feeling like I hit a creativity wall and dying to create more illustrations. 😩
Any rad PDB structures you can suggest? Drop them in the comments for inspiration! 🎨🙌

VEGF signaling the start of angiogenesis—breaking up the cadherin junction between two cells.

I've been slowly transitioning to 3D-ish animation using rcsb pdb 💉🧬💻🔬💊🌱🧠🦠 data. My lighting is still janky in Blender, but Brady Johnston's Molecular Nodes is undefeated.

Season 2 soon.

I just got this port of CellWalk from Apple Vision Pro working on iPad tonight (not on the iOS app store yet)
