Very sad to hear about the death of former Gov. Joe Brennan. He was a generous public servant who loved Maine, and who believed that government can make people's lives better. It was an honor to know him and cover the work he did for Maine.

it is, however, clear that projects released under licenses with arbitrary use restrictions like revenue, users or purpose will not satisfy that definition when it arrives, and should not claim otherwise.

I've written a few times on it. You can help, Steve, by informing the discussion. What 'open source' means in AI is not clear. At all

because the term open source has accrued a great deal of brand affinity over the years, and people want to attach to that and selfishly do not care that they're corrupting and diminishing the open source brand when they use the term counterfactually
