Looking at photos of the 1968 student uprising at Columbia. Protesting the university’s affiliation with Pentagon, students first took over the university president’s office. Here’s a student sitting in the president’s chair and smoking one of his cigars.

A Turkish company engaged in trade with Israel is faced with a strike.
This is how the Turkish security forces treat the striking workers.
Textbook case on the increasingly connected global axes of domination (ethnicity, labor, colonization, imperialism).

God damn. Less than 2 months out from the EU elections, the leading party in almost *every* large European nation comes from the radicalized or extreme right.

'ქართული ოცნების' მიერ დღეს მიღებული კანონპროექტის მიხედვით, ბიზნესმენები, რომლებიც ოფშორულ ზონებში ფლობენ კომპანიებს, აქტივებისა და ქონებას, საქართველოში გადმოტანის შემთხვევაში, გადასახადებისგან გათავისუფლდებიან.

If anyone missed this, Georgian government introduced a foreign influence bill and then threw in a no taxation on money from offshores until 2027. They just passed the second bill, the offshore bill.

Both these bills are related and are about protecting ruling party’s finances.

Georgian Dream also weaponizes anti-Soviet memory politics, here Papuashvili claiming NGOs, opposition, and West have a “colonial mentality that is a vestige of the Soviet Union”

One facet of anti-Soviet memory politics in Georgia is not to just call opponents “Russian” but to call them “Orjonikidze” - Georgian Bolshevik and architect of Sovietization of the South Caucasus. The analogy here, however, is completely ahistorical and ridiculous.

I studied and worked at Columbia University for many years during my PhD and after. Not since the anti-war movement against the occupation of Iraq have I seen such striking political clarity and moving moral courage on campus. All power to Columbia students!

Came upon this fascinating albeit chilling interactive map of American nuclear targets of the USSR from 1956. Looks like no major urban centers were to be spared. At least two cities in Armenia - Yerevan and Leninakan - would be hit with nukes

I would find the arguments from the people opposing the ‘foreign influence’ law more honest if they didn’t call anyone they don’t like a ‘Russian agent’ and if they didn’t refer to all of the GE government as Russian and if the president didn’t refer to the police as Russian.
