It's not the YIMBY-vs-NIMBY framing that's 'divisive'. We are already divided. Namely, into NIMBYs & YIMBYs. The divide is real, and they hate each other for good reason.
And downplaying the importance of supply is only helping the NIMBYs. Doing so means picking a side.

Tobacco, for all its faults (and I support the ban on smoking in pubs and restaurants), at least doesn't have a huge smell radius. You won't smell it if someone is smoking a cigarette 100 feet away from you.

This is clickbait. Dan knows how the parliamentary system works; that the monarch is de facto obligated to appoint whoever can command a majority of the (elected) House of Commons.

He also knows however that many of his followers are too stupid/ignorant to realise this.
