Punishing behaviour by excluding young people never works, in my opinion.

I have never seen a pupil return to school even after multiple exclusions and change their behaviour.

We need to address the pain that is driving it.🧠🌱

I'm a great believer in when children know better,they do better.

This is why I teach them about their brains and bodies, including the biology of what is driving their behaviour.

All our young people should know about nervous system states ,cortex, limbic, and brainstems. 🧠🌱

Stressed brains can't learn, think, or make the best decisions. It does not have the ability to absorb and retain information.

How it does have the ability to learn is how safe it feels within it's environment.

Educators need to know this.

Basic neuroscience. 🧠🌱

If you are truly trauma aware,informed,sensitive and responsive,you should understand the role of attachment,the nervous system & brain development. That symptoms are adaptations from growing up in an abnormal harsh psychological environment that you had to adapt to survive🧠🌱
