I’ve been a climate journalist for 10 years. I’ve been a Disneyland fan my whole life.

Excited to break the news that Autopia is finally ditching gas cars and going electric.

Now Disney should make Tomorrowland all about clean energy. My Los Angeles Times column: latimes.com/environment/ne…

I have so valued the reporting of these journalists laid off by WAMU today. I know the official word is that this is about focusing on the audio product, but these journalists were GREAT on the RADIO! ...in addition to what they published on DC-ist. Their voices are WAMU too.

After today's leadership-led bloodbath, it's looking like WAMU 88.5 will be left with less than a half-dozen reporters. At full strength sometime in late 2022, it had at least three times that number.

This morning, WAMU 88.5 management informed us they are laying off 15 vital people from our organization. These individuals are the lifeblood of our journalism. Our hearts are broken. We can’t believe we are losing our colleagues and friends.

Workers The Washington Post have been in contract negotiations with our bosses for 18 months.

But the company is refusing to pay us what we’re worth or bargain in good faith.

So on Dec. 7, we’re walking off the job for 24 hours.

Our NPR investigation found thousands of veterans and servicemembers with VA loans are facing foreclosure through no fault of their own. The VA could fix this. npr.org/2023/11/11/121…

Overall, it adds up to a picture of widening inequality. People with the freedom to work from home gain back much of the time they once spent in transit, while in-person workers still spend nearly an hour commuting.

That divide breaks down on predictable race and income lines.

If you have a few moments, listen to our reporting from Nicaragua. It’s a place we hear little about on the international press because for more than year, it’s kept international journalists out. I made a trip and found a country suffocated by fear. npr.org/2023/09/08/119…

spent months reporting on families across America who have lost children to drowning.

What I found is that in America, swimming is a luxury rather than a public good.

After getting laid off 2 months ago and getting madder and sadder about all the layoffs I continue to see, I'm leaning into the misery and working on a story about layoffs for This American Life.

Specifically, I'm looking to talk to workers who know layoffs are coming but are waiting…

A major child labor rollback goes into effect in Iowa this weekend.

14 year-olds are now allowed to work in meat coolers, 15 year-olds can join assembly lines and 16 year-olds can serve alcohol.

In a few weeks, similar rollbacks take effect in Arkansas. who13.com/news/new-iowa-…

I've been reporting on renewable energy for a decade. And no matter how much I write, there’s a question I get asked again & again:

Why do we need big solar & wind farms when we can put solar on rooftops & parking lots instead?

It's a great question. Let's do a thread... 🧵1/n
