When Elections Canada notices possible irregularities or cases of non-compliance within these political financing rules, they send those files to us. Our office will review them and investigate when needed.

When the financial returns of registered Electoral District Associations are not filed by the deadline, Elections Canada may send them our way as part of our compliance and enforcement mandate.

Depending on the severity and type of contravention, the Commissioner can process a case by choosing the criminal or the administrative route.

In either situation, when formal measures are taken, the results are always published on our website.
