New Ipsos poll

Lab 44%
Con 19%
Reform 13%
LD 9%
Green 9%

Worse Tory result in the history of Ipsos polling going back to 1978.

Sunak rating now as low as Major and Corbyn at their lowest points.

I see we're doing the EU-US comparison again. It's always the same. US purchasing power and material standard of living is undeniably higher (for at least the top 60%), Europeans have better work-life balance and fewer social issues.

New: London has a shortage of homes, but it doesn't have a shortage of golf courses.

In fact, London’s 95 golf courses take up more land than the entire borough of Brent.

Here's the case for building on some of them.

Most of us are reasonably convinced that Truss's economic programme (fwiw) was proven to have failed within a month. The market verdict was brutal.

But most policy isn't that clear.

I read a LOT of centre left pamphlet-speak calling for industrial policy ... 1/

I find it wild how people in modern anglosphere just seem to believe it’s absolutely impossible for cities to increase their population by ~100% in a decade and manage to build enough housing and infrastructure, something that was pretty common in the past.

Wrote something about the Avanti Problem and why businesses, passengers and regional leaders are running out of patience with both the operator and the government:

This is a good articulation of why renewables will be so good for the economy in the long term.

The shorter term challenges - investing enough capital to scale renewables up and managing a system with variable output - are real, but the prize is enormous.

The government could have chosen to spend time and resources strengthening our weak asylum systems but instead chose to pursue madcap plans to stop immigration altogether that have been an inevitable disaster.

NEW: my column this week is about the coming vibe shift, from Boomers vs Millennials to huge wealth inequality *between* Millennials.

Current discourse centres on how the average Millennial is worse-off than the average Boomer was, but the richest millennials are loaded πŸ’ΈπŸš€

For those who think the issue of Brexit will go away, the frontier of age/Brexit preferences is steadily shifting in a pro-EU direction - and is likely to continue to do so as a result of population replacement. Data via British Election Study

NHSE and ministers continue to bat away the RCEM estimates of how many patients die because their A&E wait is too long (their recent conservative estimate 250/week, my estimate 400/week)...
