Trying to get any statement/comment from The City University of New York on this and there's radio silence. Why?
a WKCR-FM NY reporter just stopped reading aloud shafik's 9:53 email sent to students on air, after reading that CU will keep NYPD on campus until may 17th. would not read out the next paragraph, which was of course about the university's commitment to student safety

the past several days show the vital role that independent student news outlets like the Columbia Daily Spectator play, especially when political polarization and misinformation are rising. every community needs on-the-ground witnesses to major news events, and universities are no exception
Today is my last day WAMU 88.5.
It's bittersweet. I believe in the mission of local journalism. &I respect and admire my colleagues - including Margaret Barthel, Elliot C. Williams, kayla hewitt, Matt Blitz, Sarah Y. Kim - so much. But I need to step away from WAMU and the news industry.
