NIMBYs try to deny what the data undeniably communicates: all else being equal, denser homes are cheaper homes.

Big lesson this year for current and future city councillors: always raise taxes by at least inflation.

Raising taxes by 0% is a tax decrease in real terms that you will get ZERO credit for.

Question for my fellow Edmonton planning nerds: what if we just deleted the specific node and corridor delineations from district plans and accepted everything else in them?

Why not simply revert back to the fuzzy borders in the City Plan? Good idea? Bad idea?

This is appaling, multiple officers and a helicopter in pursuit of someone because they didn't have bike lights. EPS continues to demonstrate astonishingly unethical judgement, if EPS isn't interested in working towards the public good then it doesn't deserve public money.

He was riding a bike without lights and they CHASED HIM WITH A HELICOPTER

This is so horrific and enraging. This massive overreaction and ridiculous waste of resources cost a man his life

And no one will be held accountable

There is no rent control that works as well as a high vacancy rate.

Strong rent controls cannot beat giving renters housing options and choice.

Make landlords compete, instead of renters.

(FYI, still support reasonable rent control policies)

Weird because Canada's very trustworthy newspapers told me like 50 times in the last few months that EVs are done like dinner.

'We live in a police state where cops value their right to take action, but not their responsibility to explain themselves. Until we directly challenge the police power to control our bodies and movements, their carnage will continue.'

Tim Querengesser People like to rip on bike lanes, but I've had more than one developer tell me that the reason they've built dense housing on 102 Ave/124 St. are is partly because of bike lanes. So, there is a return to that investment.

This Earth Day, I am reflecting on the enormous potential for more housing and car-less living at the University of Alberta.

Land use is one of our most important climate action levers and with enormous city pop growth, we can't wait.

First it was “insolvency” &when that was resoundingly disproven it’s a manager concern (4 gone in the City Manager’s re-org, 1 for a stellar opportunity, 1 quit, & the last was the CM himself who went straight to a consulting job).

Oh, wait, NOW it’s 1 ethics complaint?

Today, this inoffensive development application close to transit and the U of A was almost deferred because councillors thought they may vote differently if the draft district plans and policy are approved in May.

This is not a good sign.🧵

We were out in today selling cookies to raise $30.64 billion to pay for the critical climate and affordability solutions that didn’t make it into – roughly the amount the feds could get from imposing a windfall profits tax on the wealthiest corporations but alas..

did you ever hear the one about how encampments were full of violent gangs doing the worst things imaginable and then they tore down all the encampments and then didn't arrest any gang members.

We were told this was impossible, and now it is an everyday occurrence. The same people now say that it is impossible to do elsewhere. they will be wrong on that too
