Hey folks, I wasn't fired by Elon Musk, and I don't care which jet-flying tech bro owns Twitter. They all seem like sanctimonious clout chasers. However, so do we. Also, I'm here to share my love for . So, please watch this spotted owlet be angrily cute for 10 seconds.

In 2020, I decided to tweet a bird photo daily, 5 times a week. I've since been surprised by how many of you loved . But lately, it feels like a chore as I tweet, even when I have nothing to say. So, I'll return whenever I do. Until then, here's a spotted owlet for you.

If it weren't for an impromptu trip to , a gorgeous hill station in south India, a decade ago - my life may have turned out very differently. I don't think I'd have even become a birdwatcher.

So, thank you for everything, dear Kodai. For this rosefinch too.

Guided birdwatching tours are very bittersweet. While it's easy to photograph new and learn about their habitats, I feel like I'm in the backseat of my own journey. It's why I prefer going solo. Plus, nothing beats unexpectedly seeing a flame-throated bulbul.

The hills of south India come alive with the silent screams of city folk looking for a break from urban life. Whenever I go there, the Indian white-eye is one of the first that visit me. They're like stress balls that come alive when I need to depressurize.

October makes me sad as the rains affect my birdwatching plans. Gone are the days when I could curl up with a book and a cup of coffee while sporadically counting the raindrops on my windowpane. Now, I count the days until I can see spotted owlets again.

Popularity contests can kill your passion by turning it into a rat race. After a point, the urge to win becomes hard to resist. Competitive birdwatching is no different. You don't need brownie points or trophies to see spotted owlets.

Owl you need is love.

If someone photographed me how I do , I'd throw heavy objects at them while screaming vile obscenities. So, I don't let myself forget that birdwatchers, by nature, are creeps. Don't believe me? Here's a great Indian hornbill that feels the same way.

Yellow-browed do weird things to me. I feel a soft breeze that isn't there. I hear songs that haven't yet been sung. I see paintings on absent canvases. Then, I understand what Pablo Neruda meant by, 'I want to do to you what spring does to cherry trees.'

My memory has always been bad. Lately, it's gotten worse. I seem to have forgotten many faces, from relatives and classmates to colleagues and Tinder dates. Thankfully, I remember every Indian paradise flycatcher I've seen - especially the first that posed for me.

After 5 days on the island, seeing 7 road kill and a few hundred kilometres driving I finally found a live kangaroo island tiger snake (Notechis scutatus)!

Growing up, I loved Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. I also wanted to slide down a rabbit hole and escape my dreary life. But, in my 30s, seeing like this Malabar Trogon made me realize that my white rabbits have wings. So, follow them, I must.
