Therapy inside of the medical industrial complex was never intended to be a place of healing. It was intended to pathologize + separate outsiders under a white Eurocolonial lens, “fix” behaviors that challenge authority/power, and force us to better cope with inhumane oppression.

spirituality isn't therapy, it's true. and psych wards/hospitals/drs are inherently anti-black.

so many systemic and community failures led to this tragedy. so many factors are responsible.

In the 1960s & 1970s in the absence of mainstream publishers many Black voices would never have been heard if not for small independent African American publishers. How do we keep the work alive now that the publishers and poets themselves are passing on?

This is indeed my feeling as well, and working on this project shows that people do give a shit. We're going to touch close to half a mil in Canadian soon which is wild. A lot of people lately have been asking friends to donate for their birthday and I will be doing this as well!

idk…i think many of the radical/revolutionary anestors we hold in high regard would prefer we make serious efforts to consider ourselves their comrades and collaborators…rather than engaging in what amounts to hero worship where we could never measure up to their commitment(s).
