i could put on some ambient driving around town and would feel happy because the vibes are right.

this is sucha cop out but it really does depend from genre to genre……but i think overall i lean music.

definitely more oriented toward music. i can't separate lyrics qua lyrics from the timbre of a voice — someone might be singing incredible poetry, platitudes, or nonsense, but if i don't like the voice i don't like the song.

Words are sonic units, language is an instrument, all text including and especially prose on a page is music… something all great musicians understand but way too many writers can’t seem to grasp, now more than ever

as others have said, it's the way lyrics are delivered in a musical sense! no idea if Liz Fraser is saying 'cherry coal' or 'Jericho' but it's the intonation of her voice that affects you

I love and hate this question because the two are so thoroughly co-dependent.. 'bad'/simple lyrics can function perfectly over simple music, but, like, Fiona Apple and David Longstreth aren't singing Bad to the Bone over those chord changes
