Today we said a fond farewell to Joe Meehan, a great stalwart of Sligo Drama Circle. Joe was involved in many capacities with the DC for many years. He was part of the group which campaigned for a 'Theatre For Sligo' during the 70s, culminating in the opening of Hawk's Well Theatre

Almost 50 years ago Sligo Drama Circle was performing a summer season of plays in the Town Hall with a view towards building a “Theatre for Sligo” which eventually led to the opening of Hawk's Well Theatre in 1982. #sligo #drama #irishdrama

We're busy compiling archival material for a forthcoming book on the history of Sligo Drama Circle. This photo is of a March 1961 production of 'To Live in Peace'. We've identified all but two in this large photo of cast and crew. Do you recognise anyone? #sligo

Programme for “The Man Born to be King”- a Passion Play performed in Holy Cross Dominican Church in April 1971. At the conclusion of the play, the 126 year old Church was demolished to make way for the building of a new church, known as the Friary. #sligo
