I picked up a Newsquest South London paper yesterday that carried this advertorial. The front page splash was a story written by a Local Democracy Reporter fully funded by the BBC licence fee. Without the two LDR pieces there was very little of substance in the paper at all.

The BBC gave the big local paper groups a load of publicly paid reporters - and then after that we hardly saw them at the Town Hall any more. So in a funny way the Beeb props up some of these private companies’ local coverage.
