This is the best and most important thing I have ever written. Don't miss it.

(Which would be plagiarism if I didn't now add: that's a quote from Bill Ackman in a tweet he wrote last week about a tweet he wrote last week.) theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

If these numbers for the favorites are right (and I think they are both too high), the chances of a Biden-Trump rematch are almost exactly the same as Nate Silver’s 2016 estimation of the chance Clinton would win.

Doesn’t the ⁦Marc Benioff⁩ statement in this story indicate that the choice of ⁦TIME⁩’s person of the year was “driven” by the CEO rather than by editors? nytimes.com/2024/01/18/bus…

'I have also been taken aback by the brazen behavior of people like Bill Ackman Harvard University & Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) & Marc Rowan Penn, rich men who have insisted that volume of their voice in governance ought to correspond to the size of gifts they have made.'

So many scammers were laundering gift cards at Walmart that they often ran into each other at self-checkout counters! Check out (pardon the pun) this absorbing look at how the retailer's lax oversight fostered a boom in fraud: propublica.org/article/walmar…

Some questions after this WSJ scoop that Chinese uploaded COVID virus sequence 2 weeks prior to public release:
- who in US government knew about this when?
- would “nearly complete” sequence have been usable if made public?

Thought experiment: if Biden was being opposed for the Dem nomination, and opponents got 40%+ in the first contest, how would the political press report it?
Contrast that with how they will report opposition to the first former president to seek the office in 112 years.
