thinking about how the founder of the nation of islam was a guy who used 58 different aliases, randomly showed up in detroit one day and started preaching to the black population, then disappeared. he’s never been found and almost nothing is known about his real identity

For a teach in I recently was part of at a park, we had a portion of the entire teach in dedicated to that park and its relationship to its neighbors, its historic significance to the Lenape, its connection to the way waterways have changed in our city, and its relevance now.

thinking of many things today but in particular about eclipses: how prisoners are kept from seeing this current eclipse. about roles eclipses have played spiritually in uprisings throughout history. how witnessing an eclipse gave Nat Turner the sign he needed to begin his revolt.

During a solar eclipse, the gaps between leaves on trees act as multiple pinhole cameras,

and each gap projects its own crescent-shaped image of the eclipsed sun onto the ground.

This whole eclipse glasses situation once again marginalizes the “doesn’t plan ahead” community, incidentally the only people who actually appreciate beauty.
