The 242A Evaporator is located in the 200 East Area, near the Plutonium Uranium Extraction Plant (PUREX). It began operations in 1977 & its function is to remove water & volatile organics from tank waste. Energy will clean close it when they are done using it. #HanfordPermitting

Today’s #TBT shows us the Hanford area patrol inspection check point. It was obligatory for all to pass through this gate and it was used for safety.

On May 15, 1989 the signing of the Tri-Party Agreement occurred between our agency, U.S. EPA & U.S. Department of Energy.

The Single-Shell Tanks are a total of 149 tanks in 12 groups called tank farms which were built between 1943 and 1964. These tanks store highly radioactive and chemically hazardous waste. The tanks hold about 28 million gallons of waste in the form of sludge, salt cake.

Our team participated in Salmon Summit West @ Prosser. This event brought hundreds of students together to release salmon into the river & visit different stations @ Crawford Park. We love being part of events that help elementary kids learn about the Hanford Site & its wildlife!

Today’s #TBT takes us to the Hanford Animal laboratory. Scientists would test for internal and external contamination. The apparatus we see is measuring radiation. These pigs that were used for tests, were colloquially known as Hanford pigs.

Roughly 700 cases of Coke (Coca Cola) were consumed daily at the Hanford Site. #NationalHaveACokeDay #HaveACokeDay
