“Win Rozario’s mother Eva Costa was hugging him after he was tased — not trying to remove the device — she and her surviving son said. … ‘My son had a little mental problem, but the police weren’t listening to us,’ said Win’s father Francis Rozario.” nydailynews.com/2024/03/27/nyp…

Wow. New York Focus predicted that Adams would contract with this company -- which overpromises and whose tech has, historically, been a mess -- two years ago.

Experts foresee false alerts, commuting delays, more contact with police.

Winzinzent Rozaro was 19 years old. He reportedly called 911 for help. Instead, police officers - who were not mental health professionals - killed him while he was in a mental health crisis.

Reaching out for support should not have fatal consequences.

“We want justice. My son was innocent. My son had a little mental problem, but the police weren’t listening to us,” said Win’s father.

It's a pleasure to support Georgetown Law ICAP's cert. petition in J.W. v. Paley (23-931). The case challenges a bizarre 5th Cir. rule immunizing school officials for unconstitutional violence. (@IJ unsuccessfully petitioned on this issue last fall, below.)

Civilian oversight of the NYPD has always been limited, underfunded, and imperfect. But this administration is slashing funding, forcing the CCRB to stop investigating whole categories of police misconduct: hellgatenyc.com/eric-adams-def…

The 9th Circuit today granted qualified immunity to an officer who shot a man six times. The decision nicely illustrates why the justifications for qualified immunity doctrine bear scant relationship to reality, and why it is brutally unjust. 🧵 1/10

This is the first time I have seen this formulation of what does.

It's from a case where a city's only massage parlor inspector was a documented creep, who raped a massage parlor owner.

I don't think he's a good person.

'What Mayor Eric Adams seeks would result in local law enforcement being able to transfer New Yorkers merely suspected of a crime to ICE, upending local criminal court proceedings while perpetuating family separation and dividing communities.' dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

Right now NYC is facing an epidemic of police misconduct. Complaints against police up 51%. $114 mill paid out just in *verdicts* for misconduct in 2023. By any measure it is far worse than it was before BLM/George Floyd. That's 100% on Eric Adams.

📣 Now that the PBA's challenge to our protest settlement has been resolved, we have a message for the NYPD:

It is abundantly clear that the terms of this agreement are now in effect and the NYPD is obligated to immediately implement those reforms when policing protest.

Cool cool, top NYPD officials are spending their time calling out judges by name on Twitter, promising to do it more if the judges don't do what the cops want, and the mayor is totally on board. gothamist.com/news/top-nypd-…

The NYPD is jeopardizing the safety of these public servants by targeting them on social media. This behavior—especially from a Commissioner—isn’t just unprofessional, it’s dangerous. No one at the NYPD should be engaging in politically-motivated attacks.
