The U.K. Government are hiding long covid.

They stopped reporting the numbers of people with long covid in March 2023 when 1.9M were suffering inc. 62,000 children.

But we know in the US, for example, the problem is getting worse.

Why aren’t politicians calling this out?

In February 2024, science writer Ed Yong hosted a new birding club, just for long-haulers. He hopes to offer long-haulers community and an accessible way to enjoy nature.

Read Jenny McKee’s Audubon feature, with tips on starting a local club!

The 2nd floor of Afrosiyob Museum in Samarkand has a number of bone objects including these fragments I believe to be knife handles. Here they are side by side by replicas showing how they might have looked in the 8th Century.

Today, a post about viral persistence, antivirals and how it plays into the complexity of and other post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS). If you've been following me for a while, you probably know that I've been saying for a few years now that LC is a complex 1/

Sunset from our lane a couple of years back this week. Just reminding myself what a sunset looks like. Unusually for me its unedited apart from a tiny straightening.

Baking day

Somsa / samsa / sambusag are baked meat pastries. The modern form is typically triangular, but in early medieval times they were semi circular and made with a layered pastry. I used lamb shoulder for the filling

As a reenactor working fairly independently without academic or institutional backing, access to high quality artistic & archaeological materials makes my job a lot easier and allows accurate reconstruction. Thankfully we have exactly that in Sogdiana.

derek guy I think you've touched on a critical conversation about the intersection of fashion, body image, and societal ideals. Fashion, at its best, is an art form and a mode of personal expression, but the industry and media often spotlight very narrow standards of beauty and success.

One of my most precious pieces of living history / reenactment kit. A reconstruction of a Sogdian diadem based on depictions in Sogdian painting and with elements taken from Sogdian / Central Asian metalwork. Made by the expert hands of Nicky Wade (Gemmeus)
