The Conservative Govt wants to shoot more and more wild badgers at night from distance causing prolonged suffering and agony for this iconic species.

The badger cull is senseless and flies in the face of science. It must end.

Shooting more and more badgers dead is not the solution to tackling the spread of tBT in cattle.

The dairy industry needs to fix its bio security, stop moving infected dairy cows around the country, and work to stop cattle-to-cattle transmission – not demonise badgers.

In 2023 the government licensed the killing of almost 20,000 more badgers, bringing the total since 2013 to more than 230,000. Over three quarters killed using a demonstrably inhumane method, and with no clear benefit for TB in cattle. Shameful

As humans encroach into wildlife habitats 🌳, we're coming into closer contact with new pathogens 🦠 Spillover can happen during wildlife trade, farming, or even private keeping as pets. Let's prioritise conservation and animal welfare to protect both wildlife and ourselves (5/5)

Addressing animal welfare harms is key to reducing the risk of future pandemics. Most emerging diseases originate in wild animals, but it’s when we disrupt and stress them that pathogens are likely to emerge and cross over (4/5)

To prevent another pandemic, we must transform our relationship with animals and the environment. How we treat wild animals is crucial to this, by eliminating or regulating high-risk activities like wildlife trade and trafficking (1/5)

Killing over half the wild population of badgers when they are not the primary cause of disease in the cattle herd is a scandal and an ecological disaster.

It’s time we demand our policymakers protect nature, not attack it > buff.ly/3T4QsnT
