The black actress received racist backlash for being cast as Juliet, opposite Tom Holland as Romeo.

Nearly 300 years ago, the first Black performer to play Juliet was Rachael Baptiste, an Irishwoman also hugely successful as a singer.
She performed in Lancashire in the mid-1700s.

Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet is incredible casting and so exciting.

The racism coming from some sick, ignorant people is vile and needs to be called out. There is no space for these hateful views in any part of society.
