Through the selection of Texas DT Byron Murphy 16th in the NFL draft, we learned tonight some insight on how new coach Mike Macdonald envisions remaking the porous defensive front thenewstribune.com/sports/article… Tacoma News Tribune

NFL draft video from Tacoma News Tribune: GM John Schneider, coach Mike Macdonald explain why they selected Texas DT Byron Murphy instead of taking 1 of 4 offers to trade down and get a 2nd-round pick they still don't have: thenewstribune.com/sports/article…

New coach Mike Macdonald envisions 1st-rd pick Byron Murphy playing like Leonard Williams in schemes.

That is: All over the D-line, 3-tech, 5, over tackles, guards, even nose. The idea: Offenses don't know where Seattle's defense is coming from thenewstribune.com/sports/nfl/sea…

John Schneider said he and the had 4 offers to trade down, 'good ones, too.'

Two hours after he just got drafted, before his 1st NFL practice, how could you possibly know that? Wild, speculative, baseless.

Can't a 20-something celebrate the biggest moment of his life with as many people, in any place, as he wants?

GM John Schneider had 'multiple' offers to trade down from 16, 'good ones, too.' But he, couldn't pass up drafting Texas DT Byron Murphy right there instead. Totally impacts the game from inside.

Byron Murphy has 400 people at his NFL draft party at the Statler Hotel in his Dallas hometown tonight.

John Schneider stopped the party--with the call that made the Univ. of Texas DT's dreams come true.

The top pick's heroes? 'My parents' thenewstribune.com/sports/nfl/sea…

'The steal of the draft.'

From inside team HQ in Renton tonight: Why the did not trade down, as has become expected. Why they drafted Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy--and not Dallas Turner or Troy Fautanu: twitter.com/Jbooty88/statu… Tacoma News Tribune

Right now Byron Murphy is the steal of the draft. Johnny Newton is right there with him and the further he falls the bigger the steal

Pittsburgh Steelers select Washington Huskies offensive tackle Troy Fautanu at 20th overall in NFL draft.

I had predicted the would trade down from 16 to 25 to draft Fautanu.

Seattle did this instead: thenewstribune.com/sports/nfl/sea… Tacoma News Tribune

To me, chose Texas DT Byron Murphy over Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner at 16 because of run defense.

Seattle was 31st in NFL stopping the run. The franchise hired new coach Mike Macdonald to fix that. Murphy can help do that: thenewstribune.com/sports/nfl/sea… Tacoma News Tribune

don't trade down, go against the NFL trend of the 1st round--but right with new coach Mike Macdonald--by selecting Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy 16th overall in Tacoma News Tribune thenewstribune.com/sports/nfl/sea…

New Orleans Saints select Oregon State offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga from Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma 14th in NFL draft.

Fuaga becomes the highest-drafted player from Mount Tahoma since WR Bobby Moore went 4th overall in 1972 to the St. Louis Cardinals Tacoma News Tribune

No defensive players among 1st 13 selected in NFL draft.

at 16 with defense-1st coach Mike Macdonald must be absolutely loving this.

Plus: UW OT Troy Fautanu, Oregon St OT Taliese Fuaga from Mount Tahoma High School also still available.

SEA trade down way in play
