Physics teachers! Be sure to share this graphic with Ss, but also remind them that electricity currently meets only around 20% of UK’s overall energy needs. Electrification of transport and heating is underway (slowly), so we need way more electricity!

Some headlines from these council elections:

🔴 We'll have a Labour govt soon
🟠 Lib Dems did better than Conservatives
🟢 Greens progressed strongly especially in their General Election target seats

Bizarre that metropolitan journalists thought Reform a more important story

I find it weird that newspapers characterize students as being “pro-Palestinian” as opposed to anti whatever you call this.

So — wait. The more you pedestrianise, the more cycle lanes you build, the more you crack down on polluting vehicles, the more Low Traffic Neighbourhoods you bring in... the more votes you get? Is that the lesson for Sadiq Khan and his team?

These elections have shown pro-environment parties and mayors who made net zero central to their campaigns made significant gains.

Reform have won 2 council seats out of 2500.

Time to recognise the net zero row back and kowtowing to an extreme fringe was a strategic disaster

Reminds me of the time John Major, in similar electoral difficulty, said ‘When your back’s to the wall, you’ve got to turn around and fight.’ Advice that would lead to you fighting a wall.

Khan’s bravery on ULEZ, in the run up to an election, should be a lesson to politicians. Don’t blame the need to get re-elected for short-termist thinking on climate, clean air and biodiversity. Do the right thing, be brave, think long term. You will win.

Interview with new head of the UK National Farmers Union.

In the midst of a farming crisis driven by record-breaking rains and floods, not a single mention of breakdown.

Just extraordinary. Talk about heads in the sand.

Interesting that in London, which is the UK’s most diverse city, Reform UK managed only 3.2% of the vote in the Mayoral election. When human beings actually live with people from different backgrounds, they tend to get along just fine.

Did you hear the news? We've just defeated the government over its UNLAWFUL CLIMATE PLAN 🙌⚖️

I sometimes wonder how much denial there is about things and then I realise that our busy lives are so absorbed in the status quo that anything that just doesnt fit may be acknowledged but then simply pushed aside like punctuation

Don’t keep your boiler. Great discussion here. Do get your new heat pump *sized* correctly for your home, and ensure your rads are also properly analysed for size. Size matters.
